You should only consider private student loans after you have exhausted scholarships, grants, and work-study opportunities and maxxed out federal student loans. If you don’t plan on using federal student loan benefits, it’s worth shopping around with private lenders to see if you can secure a lower rate than what you’d get from the government.

Regardless of the loan, always borrow responsibly and take out only what you need.
